A, ‘Lux’ and B, ‘Akashinriki’ barley plants were grown in soil amended with either 20 µM epiBL or water and, after 10 days, stem bases were treated with either
Tween 20 in 1% agar or Fusarium culmorum conidia in Tween 20 and 1% agar. Fifteen days post stem base treatment, the visual disease symptoms were assessed.
FSB symptoms were scored as product of lesion length (in centimeters) by lesion color (lesion color scale: 0, no disease; 1, very slight brown necrosis; 2, slight to
moderate brown necrosis; 3, extensive brown necrosis; and 4, extensive black necrosis) (38). Bars indicate standard error of mean least significant difference at P ≤
