The materials used were crystalline silica (quartz) and amorphous
silica (silica fume) provided by Tecnosil, sugar cane bagasse
ash (SCBA) provided by Usina Caete, and CPI S - 32 cement. The
quartz was ground to obtain an average particle size close to that of
the other materials. The particle size distribution of the materials
was determined using the CILAS 1064 laser granulometer. The
particle size distribution is shown in a previous paper [14]. The
average particle sizewas observed to be ~4.3 mmfor SCBA, ~12.2 mm
for silica fume, and ~17.5 mm for quartz. Table 1 shows the chemical
composition of cement and SCBA. It is observed that SCBA consists
mainly of SiO2. The content of SiO2 in crystalline silica and silica
fume is larger than 94%.
