a fine particle size (majority are less than 1 m) and a compact
morphology, as shown by the backscattered SEM image
in Fig. 6. This is very different from the Fe-containing intermetallic
compound formed in the conventional HPDC process,
which is usually in the form of large plates or needles. Fine and
spherical Fe-containing intermetallic particles are less harmful
to mechanical properties, particularly on ductility.
