• The PACE-EH community environmental health assessment model proved applicable in Peru’s coastal and jungle regions—building consensus among diverse community groups, mobilizing residents to identify problems and expect solutions, and alerting authorities to environmental problems.
• CARE Peru’s building of local environmental health coalitions was fundamental to implementation of the environmental health assessment process in two periurban communities.
• Including community residents throughout the assessment process aided their understanding of complex environmental
