We can take it everywhere. Smartphones will become an important factor in life. No matter where I go, I always see people use their smartphones severely. In fact, using smartphone too much may have negative effects both short and long terms. In Thailand, the most popular smartphone brands are iPhone and Samsung. The smartphone addiction is when people use the smartphone for many hours per day. Nowadays, a lot of people addict to smartphone both children and adults. The smartphone addiction affects a lot of bad things which had an effect for health, education, and interpersonal interaction.
First, the effect of smartphone addiction that is bad for health. It affects a lot of disease. The health is an important thing that we should look after. Using the smartphones which have a small screen size may cause an eye muscle aches, for children may affect nearsighted. Staring at the smartphone for a long time caused headaches. The sitting posture should change frequently; avoid using a smartphone for a long time and holding smartphone near your face. Second, the effect of smartphone addiction that is bad for education. Nowadays, when we look at every classroom, there are a lot of student using the smartphone such as Samsung, IPhone, HTC or Sony. In a survey conducted by Stanford University in 2010, “it was found that in 200 iPhone-using students, the Apple smartphone can be rather addictive for both its recent adoptees and its long-time users, and many users relied on iPhone as a part of their lifestyle” (PLoS One, 2013). Some people believe that if there is no smartphone it would have an effect on education because the children will not have any source for searching the knowledge instantly. On the other hand, some people said that the students would not pay attention for learning; the children will refuse to do their homework if they do not play games or watch a clip on YouTube in their smartphone first. They are interested in a smartphone more than learning, so it has an effect that they do not understand about the subject. Using smartphone in a classroom will reduce a concentration of study. In addition, you may get a bad grade and the parents will complain. However, there are many parents willing to pay money to buy smartphones or tablets to support their children’s learning but the results always become the opposite.
Lastly, the effect of smartphone addiction is to reduce interpersonal interaction. At present, the progress of technology change quickly. Using smartphone too much, it affects the relationship between people both family and friends. It makes you be a private person. Although a smartphone is a communication tool that we use to contact with many people around the world, but you should use it in a proper time. However, people in today’s world have taken it to the next level by isolating themselves from the real world” (2015). For example, sometimes you use the smartphones while you are with other people, you will interested in smartphone more than surrounding people so it reduces the interpersonal interaction and communication between you and the surrounding people, it might make they feel bad and does not want to talk with you anymore and finally you will have no friends.
In conclusion, these are the disadvantage of the smartphones addiction. It affects health, studying, and human relations. It can affect childhood, teenagers and adults. If we want a good life, we should use the smartphone suitably and be aware of the disadvantages. In fact, the smartphone gives a benefit for a human but we use it in a bad way, so it gives a disadvantage to us.
