intellectual output
Institutional Repositories are used as an effective way of
storing and making the research output accessible to
authorized users. It is believed that academic output
available in an IR is read more widely through the Intranet.
Depositing academic work in an IR might help authors to
disseminate their academic output much more quickly than
publication in any other form. A study by Chuang and Cheng
(2010) also found that IR acts as a rich medium of academic
intellectual output. Hence it was expected that the
majority of those who use IRs would be satisfied with an IR
as a reservoir of institutional academic intellectual output.
Many scholars often later submit the results of their work to
scholarly journals, and many do not use IRs at all at this
time. An analysis of this aspect is presented in Table 1.
