The ANOVA also showed a significant main effect of building, F(5, 737)= 13.14, M&=0.179, pThis result is not unexpected and simply means that the levels of compliance differed at the different buildings (with buildings l-6 having proportions of compliance and totals as follows: 0.88 (N=216), 0.77(N=79), 58 (N=61), 0.87 (N= 159) 56 (N= 136) and0.60 (N= 140) respectively. This building effect mightbe due to multiple factors such as the variedconfiguration of the buildings and the characteristics ofthe individuals who frequent the locations. It is alsonot surprising to find that different numbers of peopleused the elevators at the different locations. Thebuildings were of different sizes, used in different ways(academic and residential), and some had more thanone elevator. Thus, it is reasonable to expect thatelevator usage differs across buildings.
