I mean that however crucial the individual note or
connotation in my work or my research may be, the personal
element alone cannot account for it in its entirety; my work has to be
explained in social terms. As I have always thought this way, even
when I was very young, I have become accustomed to taking a
modest view of the results and the development of the educational
activities in which I have been involved. This is why I neither overnor
underestimate the part I may have played in promoting a
progressive approach to educational theory and practice
