Early childhood caries (ECC) and iron deficiency (ID) are
conditions of early childhood that affect many children
worldwide, including an alarming number of children
in industrialized countries like Canada.1–4 In British
Columbia, Canada about seventeen per cent of children
aged 4–6 years are reported to have visible, untreated
dental caries.5 For many of these children, this dental
decay may have profound effects on their daily lives.
