Influences & milestones:
* Most graphic designers were inspired by the origins of art such as painting, poetry, and even architecture. Some pioneers such as William Addison Dwiggins and Johannes Gensfleisch zur Laden zum Gutenberg also started out with a very religious background. This proves that the cultural influences had made an important impact in making the history of graphic design.
* During the time of modernism, the art of graphic design suddenly progressed and changed the way pioneers thought of their art works. New aspects were applied so people were much more interested in modifying the art so that it'll be accepted by society.
* An example of change in influences is "Art Deco", which is a process that helped the early pioneers develop a statement in their work. To ensure that the art of graphic design will not be forgotten, designers moved into a different aspect by combining the art of decoration and cultural development. The art of decoration uses realistic materials rather than an image.
2. Typography:
* Writing in any typefaces is considered typography. The early generation started writing on rocks, woods, and clay before it actually became an art. After the development of paper and movable type technology in mid 1400s, more artists such as El Lissitzky, Alexander Rodchenko, and Laszlo Moholy-Nagy switched gears and started the study in type of fonts.
*Versatile was the key idea in creating texts. A founder of the movable text discovered the versatility of every symbol he created. For example, a finished symbol or letter is to be re-use for another project.
* Typography is one of the simplest forms of art because it focuses mainly on the setting and arrangement of texts. Rather than making a masterpiece with a paintbrush, typographers use the basic tools to make clarity and not beauty.
3. Technological advancement & effects:
* Nowadays, when new technologies are invented, graphics has become very easy for people to create . For example, the art of sculpting had gone from carving to laser cutting. More opportunities are now available to almost anyone.
* Technological advancement had greatly impacted the fashion world thus suddenly made the creation of flyers and ads very easy and effortless. It helped many "artists" become successful by just a click of a mouse. The value of old masterpiece paintings had increased over the years because they are what are truly original.
* It seems almost as if there are no negative effects since technology has been dominating for the last 10 years. It has come to a point where people cannot do the impossible without the assistance of technology. This decreases the number of natural talents thus making the "old painting" industry more and more popular.
