One of the many problems encountered in field operations for monitoring
insect populations is sample size. This is usually restricted by plot size, availability
of sufficient, suitable traps, transportation of large numbers of traps
onto the site, and available manpower. Where plot size is not the restricting
factor and the area to be sampled is large, the problem is to get large numbers
of traps onto the site and to be able to set out and retrieve them quickly, easily
and without a large workforce. In addition, the more data that can be obtained
the better, so a trap design that enables more than one data set to be
obtained is desirable.
