A solo hike through a hilly forest in Phu Foilom sent every sense tingling. Slowing my thoughts, and stealing my “Rat Race” mindset one day at a time. Where else could I better heal my nerves after 11 years of Medical Sales in Phoenix Arizona? Wandering with nothing but time and the scent of grilled chicken on my hands. It is a great gift to have the time to sit and watch a brigade of ants devour a large grasshopper in 12 minutes. To find a patch of venus fly traps poised with open feed pods hungrily awaiting their next flying snack. Or, inevitably meeting up with some local youngsters foraging for mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and edible insects. Right here, and right NOW is how people live in the countryside of Thailand. They have everything they truly need there. Only an outside influence like an American like me could poison these people of the countryside with the concept of “lack” or “want”. My lack of Thai vocabulary allowed me to simply smile and greet them before I walked on.
