Each of the theatre, culture,
and political system metaphors introduce an explicitly
social dimension to the study of organizations, and give particular
attention to the way in which human beings may
attempt to shape organizational activities. Insofar as the
dramaturgical, cultural, and political activities involved here
are seen as occurring within a contextually defined and
hence ontologically real setting, and viewed as a form of
adaptive activity, these metaphors also develop a
functionalist approach to the study of organizations.
