I read this book over the summer and it became one of my favorite books of all time. I had never read anything by Albom before that and after I finished reading it I went out and got every book by him that I could get my hands on. He is absolutely fantastic. Once I start one of his novels I can’t put it down.
My favorite thing about The Time Keeper in particular is how it makes you think about time differently. We measure everything we do by time. We spend so much time worrying about time we actually miss out on experiencing life during that time we are so busy measuring. My favorite quote from the book actually has to do with this very idea. “Try to imagine a life without timekeeping. You probably can’t. You know the month, the year, the day of the week. There is a clock on your wall or the dashboard of your car. You have a schedule, a calendar, a time for dinner or a movie. Yet all around you, timekeeping is ignored. Birds are not late. A dog does not check its watch. Deer do not fret over passing birthdays. an alone measures time. Man alone chimes the hour. And, because of this, man alone suffers a paralyzing fear that no other creature endures. A fear of time running out.”
I agree with you in saying that anyone would love this book. Not only would anyone love it, but I think that anyone would benefit from reading it. I know that it personally changed how I look at life and how I view time. In addition to this, all of his novels are really short reads.
In addition to the other titles by Mitch Albom that are previously suggested, I would recommend reading For One More Day. This is yet another fantastic story that will change how you look at life.
