Working with filtrates of natural seawater and pure phytoplankton cultures, wALLACE and WILsON (1969) found evidence which indicates the presence of proteins and/or humic acid, fatty acids, polysaccharides , and possibly phospholipids and steroids in collapsed foam (foamate). Also, they recovered essentially all bovine serum albumin from initial concentrations as low as 5 ug/l in artificial seawater. Efficiency of the foam separation process depends upon design and operation of the foam tower. WALLAC and WILSON (1969) discuss parameters of column dimensions, bubble size, gas flow rate, liquid turbulence, foam stability, and foam drainage in considerable detail.
