Jung Marriage Test™
Compatibility of Partners in a Couple
When it comes to finding a romance and life partner, making the right choice is extremely important. While some find love at first sight, others require a lengthy dating process to find “the one”. The natural dynamics of family life (e.g. birth of children, separation from children, aging, swings in the state of well-being, changes in educational status, etc.) can change a matrimonial relationship. In time, these relationships encounter conflicts and distancing on both sides. The quality of a given relationship is predetermined by each partner's personal characteristics and by his or her ability to develop optimal behavior in the relationship.
The principal index (score) provided by this test is called MatchIndex, and indicates the degree of compatibility of partners. The MatchIndex score ranges from 0% (bad match) to 100% (good match), respectively. The MatchIndex factors in, and is calculated as the average of, the four other indices: the expression index, the perception index, the processing index and the implementation index. These four indices indicate compatibility of two individuals in the context of the corresponding personality type dimensions proposed by Carl Jung and Isabel Briggs Myers.
Drawn from Jung’s and Briggs Myers’ theories, the assessment framework used by the Jung Marriage Test regards personality as an information system with the following four criteria:
the source and the direction of information expression,
the method of information perception,
the method of processing information, and
the form of its implementation
The Jung Marriage Test assesses the compatibility of partners from the standpoint of match or concurrence of their information systems, in each of its components:
The Expression index reflects the compatibility of two individuals in terms of the source and direction of information expression (extraversion or introversion)
The Perception index reflects the compatibility of two individuals in terms of the method of information perception (sensing or intuition)
The Processing index reflects the compatibility of two individuals in terms of the method of processing information (thinking or feeling)
Implementation index reflects the compatibility of two individuals in terms of the form of implementing information (judging or perceiving)
Our experience with using the Jung Marriage Test and observation of real life situations show that information compatibility can be used to determine the likely behaviors of a couple. A lower than 62% MatchIndex is indicative of a likely unfavorable prognosis for a long term relationship.
To take the Jung Marriage Test you must first take our free Jung Typology Test and obtain your personality type acronym and strengths of the preferences. Once you have them, you can re-use them as an input to the Jung Marriage Test multiple times to explore your compatibility with different partners.
The marriage test results are grouped in three blocks.
The first block reads the type formula and strength of the preferences for each of the partners:
