Loy Krathong is one of the most popular and romantic festivals in Thailand. It is celebrated annually on the full moon night of the twelfth lunar month. (It usually falls in November). It is held to give thanks to the Goddess of Water (in Thai : Phra Mae Khongkha).
‚Loy‛ means ‚to float‛ and Krathong is a lotus-shaped vessel made of banana leaves. In modern-day versions, it specially made bread ‘flowers’.
The Krathong usually contains a candle, three joss-sticks, some flowers, and coins. Krathongs come in many shapes and sizes.
