Cis-stereochemistry was confirmed in alkenes (Z)-3a–(Z)-10a using 2-dimensional nuclear overhauser effect spectroscopy (2D-NOESY) spectra, which in all cases showed NOE crosspeaks between the vinylic proton and the ortho proton on the phenyl ring (Fig. 3a).
