Any research study, inductive or deductive, which you undertake for academic purposes, will always require a review of relevant literature, and that will be a “critical” review, not just a description of what others have said. When you are working in an organisation, you may find that there is no time to conduct a full literature review, but this module will try to convince you that a clear idea of the theoretical context of a piece of research, helps you to clarify its purpose and outcomes, and make clear for which situations your findings do or do not hold. We all need to get into the habit of literature searching before working out how to research a particular topic.
