The CEO of a national company that sells instant noodles said, "Sales of our brands have dropped by more than three-fourths over the past one week. We don't know how long this will last."
Besides Maggi, which has dominated the category with an estimated 70% share, ITC's Sunfeast Yippee and Top Ramen from Nissin are the other big brands in the category, followed by HUL's Knorr and GSK Consumer's Foodles.
Some states and retailers have targeted other brands too, besides Maggi. Reliance Retail, for example, has taken 11 noodles brands off shelves starting last Friday across its 2,500-plus stores, while Tamil Nadu has banned sales of Wai Wai Xpress Noodles, Reliance Select
