Mixed expectations emerge for Feb import PVC pricing
In Southeast Asia and India, players reported holding mixed expectations regarding eagerly anticipated new February prices from a Taiwanese major, which should be announced towards the end of this week or the beginning of next week. An Indian trader reported receiving PVC prices at $710/ton CIF for a Russian origin and at $730/ton for Iranian material. “Our suppliers attempted some price increases in line with some improvement in demand. However, we anticipate seeing $10-20/ton reductions from a Taiwanese major as buyers remain hesitant to buy following several consecutive months of declining prices,” the trader stated. Another trader commented, “Even though crude oil prices are moving lower, we expect to hear new February prices from a Taiwanese major with rollovers or small increases as the peak season for PVC in India is approaching. We received an offer for Chinese acetylene based PVC at $690/ton CIF last week, but we do not regard this offer to be attractive and this suggests that conventional PVC sellers will not face much competition from Chinese acetylene based sellers next month.” Import prices were reported at $710-730/ton CIF, cash equivalent basis in both India and SEA while offers for Chinese acetylene based PVC were quoted at $706/ton to India and at $670-690/ton to SEA with the same terms.
