Another concept that has some bearing on leisure is Csikszentmihalyi’s idea that a person’s perception of the experience is of utmost importance. If an experience is perceived as too difficult to handle, a person will feel anxiety. If, in contrast, the experience is perceived as too easy, the person will become bored. Between anxiety and boredom, Csikszentmihalyi believes, lies an optimum condition in which one may experience “flow.”
