Diseases caused by plant pathogens usually result in crop losses within agriculture - Phaseolus vulgaris L. bean is an important legume in the daily
diet of more than 300 million people worldwide In Cameroon its consumption is increasing due to poverty-which Fusarium damping off/root rot since it has been pointed out
as the most serious disease of common bean in many countries
throughout the world causing losses of
up to 84% Bean seed treatment with various
chemicals is being successfully used for the management of such
root disease However, the concern about excessive use of fungicides is overwhelming since they rep-resent real risks for soil biodiversity, and in turn for future avail-ability of food and feed Therefore, biological control with little or no hampering effects on biodiver-sity appears to be the most promising approach to fight plant pathogens such as F. solani. Thus, endophytes that are sources of
countless natural products known to be safer, biodegradable and
environment-friendly appear to be better alternatives to synthetic
fungicides.
