Several lines of scientific evidence support the effectiveness of massage in management of pain caused by musculoskeletal disorders including OA of the knee.In the present study, a within-group analysis ascertained that TM appeared to be both statistically and clinically effective in symptomatic treatment of OA of the knee. These findings are in agreement with the previous studies demonstrating clinical efficacy of Thai massage (15-minute session, three times weekly for three weeks), Swedish massage (one-hour session, twice weekly for four weeks, then once weekly for additional four weeks) , and self-massage (20-minute session, twice weekly during ten supervised and three unsupervised intervention sessions) in patients with OA of the knee.
