How to use Speaker Polarity:
--First, record the special test signal to a CD, using the headphone output from the device, or by downloading the audio file from our web site.
--Next play the test signal through the speaker that you want to test. Try to isloate each speaker if possible.
--Hold the iPhone near the speaker to test (no other speaker closer) and press Run to start the test.
--Adjust signal level for mid-range peak reading on the level meter
--Result will appear in a few seconds as a Plus or Minus.
--Filp the phone upside down for best results, this points the mic directly at the speaker.
Correcting Polarity
If the speaker is out of phase (negative polarity), normally all you have to do is reverse the wire connections on the back of the speaker.
Anomalies
Note that many speaker manufacturers wire the tweeter backwards, compared to the main drive or woofer. So, you might read a minus near the tweeter, and a plus near the main (larger) driver. This is normal, and you should use the results from the main driver.
Testing Surround Sound Speakers
You can download a Dolby AC3 file from our website that you can use as the soundtrack on a DVD that you author using a Toast or iMovie Pro, for example. We also sell test DVDs on our web site. Then play that DVD in your DVD player, and check each speaker and the subwoofer.
