In the case of sharing highly emotionally-charged secrets, such as infidelities or concealed changes in identity, the would-be secret-sharer may need experts (e.g., marital therapists) to create a situation that offers the sharer a possibility of maintaining relationships, being truly considerate toward the previously excluded other(s), and effectively managing the other’s response (Bellman, 1981; Imber-Black, 1998)
