With translation, gateways between networks translate the identifiers
used at a particular level. The goal is to translate unique “foreign”
locators of one domain into unique “native” ones of the
other or to establish uniqueness between locators when both domains
have overlapping locator spaces. NATs are a common example
of bridging by translation.
