2.3.2. Wind direction
Wind affects the dispersion direction of air contaminants, which
can have either a positive or a negative effect for exposure,
depending on the location of the source and the population. We
obtained wind direction data from an Environment Canada monitoring
unit (WMO Identifier: 71437) located 400 m north of air
pollution monitor 29154 (Environment Canada, 2015). We separated
the cost values calculated for each monitor by the hourly
wind direction into four quadrants to explore the index's sensitivity
to wind. The wind direction quadrants were northeast (0e89),
southeast (90e179), southwest (180e269) and northwest
(270e359). We are interested in identifying deviations from the
proportion of time the wind is blowing from a quadrant and the
proportion of the cost calculated during that time.
