Avocado can be consideredas heterodichogamous, a special case of synchronized dichogamywith two morphs of genotypes with reciprocal flowering behavior(Endress, 2010), since the different avocado cultivars can be classified
based upon their floral behavior in two groups: A and B. In the
type A cultivars, the flowers open in the morning as functionally
females, close at midday and reopen the afternoon of the following
day functionally as males; flowers of the type B cultivars open as
functionally female flowers in the afternoon, close overnight and
reopen the following morning in the male stage (Stout, 1923).
