The catastrophic forgetting problem can also be solved using
pseudorehearsal [Robins, 1995]. This mechanism is similar
to rehearsal, but it does not require the storage and access of
old information. In other words we can get the benefits of
rehearsal even when we do not have the original population
to rehearse! The method is based on the use in the rehearsal
process of artificially constructed populations of
“pseudoitems” instead of the previously learned items
themselves
