Knowledge management is a concept that has emerged explosively in the business
community and has been the subject of much discussion over the past decade by
various researchers and authors (Allee 1997; Bhatt 2002; Davenport & Prusak 1998;
Probst, Raub & Romhardt 2000; Skyrme 1997; Wiig 2000). The essential part of
knowledge management is, of course, knowledge. To determine what knowledge
management is, it is helpful first to distinguish the differences between data,
information and knowledge.
