In addition to the four precipitation parameters (total accumulation,
precipitation duration, average precipitation intensity, and maximum
intensity) at a weekly time scale, antecedent precipitation (total accumulation
in prior measurement period) and natural precipitation cycles
comprising the peak precipitation and the attenuation stage were used
to determine an appropriate temporal scale at which to examine
correlation between the erosion measures and precipitation parameters.
Antecedent precipitation was included because comparison of precipitation
and erosion data suggested a positive, lagged correlation
between the two for our study area. The time period for antecedent precipitation
coincided with the prior erosion pin measurement period
(approximately one week).
