EVALUATION The performance of the solar dryer was evaluated with respect to both the drying air and the dried mangoes. The performance was specifically evaluated in terms of collector efficiency (eq. 9), pick-up efficiency (eq. 10), and drying efficiency (eq. 11) assuming steady state conditions using the thermodynamic properties recorded during operation of the solar dryer. The maximum drying temperature, under no-load conditions, was used in assessing the dryer performance as is commonly recommended since a consistent measure is unattainable under loaded conditions due to product variability (Leon et al., 2002). The average daily solar radiation used in these calculations was 388.5 W m-2.
