3.2. Differences of the aflatoxin contamination levels of peanuts in
four provinces in four years
The overall results of aflatoxin contamination in peanuts
collected in China in the years 2010e2013 were summarized in
Table 3. In these years, there were 20 samples contaminated with at
least one type of aflatoxin in the 408 samples of Liaoning Province.
Thirteen samples were AFB1-positive with the AFB1 content range
being 0.15e116.64 mg/kg and 2 samples exceeded the maximum
limit of 20 mg/kg(GB 2761-2011, limits of mycotoxins in food by
National Standard of Food Safety in China). Fifteen samples were
AFB2-positive in the content range of 0.05e27.36 mg/kg. One sample
was AFG1-positive with the AFG1 content being 3.61 mg/kg. Three
samples were AFG2-positive and the AFG2 content ranged from
0.27 mg/kg to 1.15 mg/kg. There were 226 samples contaminated
with at least one type of aflatoxin in the 1190 samples of Henan
Province. The 226 samples were AFB1-positive and the AFB1 content
range was 0.06e483.00 mg/kg. In addition, fifty samples had a
higher content of AFB1 than the limit of 20 mg/kg 139 samples were
AFB2-positive within the content range of 0.01e61.50 mg/kg. Fourteen
samples were AFG1-positive within the content range of
0.33e460.00 mg/kg. 48 samples were AFG2-positive within the
content range of 0.05e104.00 mg/kg. There were 71 samples
contaminated with at least one type of aflatoxin in the 455 samples
of Sichuan Province. 71 samples were AFB1-positive within the
content range of 0.24e1390.00 mg/kg, in which 40 samples went
beyond the limit of 20 mg/kg. Sixty samples were AFB2-positive
within the content range of 0.08e183.00 mg/kg. One sample was
AFG1-positive with the content being 33.40 mg/kg. 24 samples were
AFG2-positive within the concentent range of 0.06e29.50 mg/kg.
There were 63 samples contaminated with at least one type of
aflatoxin in the 441 samples of Guangdong Province. 51 samples
were AFB1-positive within the concentent range of 0.22e341.41 mg/
kg, among which 17 samples surpassed the maximum limit of
20 mg/kg. 52, 4 and 14 samples were AFB2-, AFG1-, and AFG2-positive
and their content ranges were 0.05e30.38, 0.50e11.50, and
0.21e5.74 mg/kg, respectively.
Based on the percentages of positive samples with four types of
aflatoxin in four provinces of China from 2010 to 2013 (Table 3),
mean contents of four types of aflatoxins (Fig. 2 & Table 3), and
percentages of non-compliant samples (Table 3), we concluded that
the aflatoxin levels of peanuts in Liaoning Province were very low
and far below the maximum amount allowed for food. The levels of
aflatoxin contamination in peanuts of Sichuan Province were
considered to be the highest in the four provinces. The aflatoxin
contamination in peanuts of Henan and Guangdong was at the
medium level and varied according to years. These results
demonstrated that peanuts produced in Liaoning Province were
safe for human consumption and therefore were suited for trading.
However, preventive measures should be taken to eliminate or
alleviate aflatoxin contamination of peanuts in other provinces
