4. Discussion
The goal of this study was to test the effect of Yakson, a Korean touch therapy, and GHT on stress hormones and the behavioral state of preterm infants. Because preterm infants experience numerous stressors in the NICU environment, it is important to identify interventions that produce soothing effects. Compared to control group infants, both Yakson and GHT group infants showed a significantly decreased level of stress hormones following the interventions. This result is consistent with previous research in which GHT group infants demonstrated a greater decrease in the serum cortisol level (Harrison et al., 1992). With respect to the concentration
of cortisol and norepinephrine, the Yakson group showed a greater decrease than the GHT group, even if the difference was not statistically significant. Based on the findings, Yakson could be considered another safe touch intervention appropriate for helping to alleviate the stress
