The public road is 36 km long and is used by most of the mining companies to transport their coal in 6e8 tons trucks. In 2008, segments of this road located in villages were paved by the mining companies under instructions from the Colombian environmental authority. Currently, 18 km of this road remains unpaved. A collection of 40 straight sections of the unpaved road were considered as area sources of emissions. The emission from each section was estimated as the amount of re-suspended particles caused by the pass by vehicles as function of their weight, vehicle average speed and silk and humidity content of the road.
