Although the exact origin of the potential
associated with involuntary eye blinks remains controversial,
the major component unquestionably
requires the presence of the optic globe and by implication
the presence of a corneoretinal potential.3 In
this report the amplitude of potentials recorded
during vertical eye movements and the amplitude of
spontaneous blink potentials have been compared.
An EOG derived by measurement of eye blink
responses may represent an alternative to the usual
clinical method in certain situations.
