Preheat the waffle iron.
Plug it in and wait for it to heat, or turn it to a certain temperature, depending on the model you're using. In many cases a small light will come on when the waffle iron is ready.
Brush the waffle iron with oil. Use a pastry brush or a paper towel to oil both the top and bottom plates of the waffle iron.
Spoon in the batter. Use 1/2 to 1 cup of batter, depending on your waffle iron. If you're not sure, go a little under the amount you think you will need.
