At least three extractions were required to achieve extraction
yields greater than 94% for all compounds monitored in the
cereal sample, i.e. 98% lutein, 98% heneicosylresorcinol, 94%
campestanyl ferulate/sitosteryl ferulate, and 97% b-tocotrienol.
Since only minor amounts of lipophilic antioxidants were
obtained by a fourth and fifth extraction cycle, all further
experiments were carried out applying 3-fold extraction.
