In the present study, we investigated the beneficial effects of a nutritional formula incorporating
glucosamine with essence of chicken (GLU + EOC) versus glucosamine (GLU) or essence of chicken(EOC) administered alone on collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) in dark agouti (DA) rats. CIA is an
established model of arthritis with symptoms and pathological features similar to RA (Luross and
Williams, 2001; Larsson et al., 1990; Magilavy, 1990; Trentham, 1982). It is widely employed to
evaluate the pharmacological intervention of chronic inflammation in arthritis.
