The Smart Infrastructure. The last component of the STM system is the Smart Infrastructure. Information systems and telecommunication systems associated with physical infrastructure are often referred to as intelligent transport systems, or ITS. In this work, the phrase intelligent has been avoided as it is misleading, giving the impression of an autonomous, self-learning system, which, in most cases, is not correct. ITS is a collection of technologies and systems including temperature and speed sensors, cameras, management and communications systems with fixed links to the infrastructure. Smart Infrastructure goes one step further and consists of three interconnected parts, a digital part, a physical part, and services given for the different
clients: shippers, receivers, transport operators, and more.
