Participants were recruited from an undergraduate family studies course at a large Midwestern university. Those who elected to participate were offered extra credit in the course. Students were offered two options for extra credit if they did not want to participate in the study. In all, 114 students elected to participate in the study. Of these, one of the research protocols could not be used due to incomplete data. The final sample consisted of 113 participants (97 women, 15 men, 1 did not report) with a mean age of 20.29 years (SD = 3.10). The sample consisted of 76% Caucasians, 18% African Americans, 3% Hispanics, 1% Asians, and 3% Multi-ethnic. At the time of the data collection, 97% had decided on a college major. Participants completed all research measures in a single class period.
