Another way how to increase uranium accumulation is by changing
the pH. Uranium uptake strongly depends on the pH of media or soil.
Our experiment showed that the uranium uptake increased at low pH
values, which is in accordance with literature (Laroche et al., 2005).
But we also demonstrated the ability of plants to regulate pH of
cultivation solution (pH suitable for plant growth is in the range of
4.0–4.5). As we showed in Fig. 3, alkaline pH of media is decreased by
plants to the pH value 4.5 during seven days. Due to the ability of plants
to regulate pH, we did not obtain differences in uranium uptake from
alkaline medium compared to the control (Fig. 4 A and B). The
published results differ, depending on chosen plant species. The highest
uraniumconcentration was found in case of nitric acid supplement, but
