We
updated and communicated this
important information to every
nursing shift in a flowing and consistent
manner: The patient’s behavior
or symptoms that signified
escalation, patient triggers, medication
responses, and the interventions
that seemed helpful as well as those
that weren’t effective. This information
was also conveyed to all treatment
team staff, including healthcare
providers, social and caseworkers,
mental health technicians, and security
staff. We reviewed and discussed
staff safety concerns and injuries
with the nursing program manager
