Talk of determinate negation leads to Adorno’s notion of negative dialectics. He tries to show how we cannot develop the kind of detached classificatory schema positivists advocate a social critique, we have to do so form within theory using a dialectical method that can develop the implications of context insofar as ‘dialectics is the self-consciousness of the objective context of delusion; it does not mean to have escaped from that context. Its objective goal is to break out of the context from within’ (Adorno 1973 : 406 ). Adorno develops a metacritique of theories of knowledge like positivism and of classic ficatory and closed systems of thought. Rather than establishing an alternative system of thought, he attempts to undermine these from within in a creative way. This can be see through his essays and aphorisms such as in his book Minima Moralia where the aim is to encourage the reader to engage in creative criticism.
