Analysis of the surviving patients data (nurses visits)
According to TOAST classification, 36.52% of the examined IS survivors had a large-artery
atherosclerosis (embolus/thrombosis), 25.51% were diagnosed with a small-vessel occlusion
(lacunar infarcts), and 23.48% of the patients suffered from cardiac thromboembolism. In
14.49% of the remaining subjects the etiology was other or undetermined. More than 1/3 of
survivors showed a substantial cognitive impairment (MMSE
