Linda Sullivan was pregnant. She was expecting her baby soon, and she was very excited. Her husband Richard was excited, too. He was going to help his wife in the hospital. Linda and Richard studied in special classes. They studied e about childbirth. Richard learned to help his wife breathe and relax during childbirth.
Late Tuesday night, Linda felt the baby coming. Linda was in labor. Richard drove the car and rushed Linda to the hospital. Richard wanted to take photos of the new baby. He carried his camera with him to the hospital.
An orderly took Linda to the delivery room in a wheel chair. The nurses and doctors examined Linda carefully in the delivery room.
"The baby will be born in a few minutes," the doctor said. suddenly, Richard remembered. There was no film in the camera. He turned to the nurse. "Please wait. I left the film in the car. I'll be right back. My car is just outside the front door.
The doctor yelled, come back! You don't have enough time. This baby isn't going to wait," But Richard didn't hear him.
Richard ran out of the delivery room to the stairs. He ran down the stairs to the first floor, out the front door of the hospital to the parking lot.
The film was in the back seat of the car. Richard grabbed the film and raced back to the hospital. But he tripped and fell down. He hurt his left leg badly. He could not stand up. Two hospital workers carried Richard into the emergency room
Meanwhile, Linda gave birth to a seven-pound girl. Linda was tired but very happy. A nurse took Linda and the baby to the maternity ward. Linda fell asleep. with the baby in her arms.
A few days later, Linda and the new baby went home from the hospital. They went in a taxi. Richard felt bad. He could not go home with them. He stayed in the hospital with his broken leg.
