In 2010, domestic visitors spent a total of 221.2 billion euros (→ Figure 3) on same-day and overnight trips in Germany. Consumption expenditures on non-tourism characteristic goods (see page 1) such as apparel and valuables (all other goods) represent the largest share of these expenditures (26.5 % or 58.6 billion euros) which emphasises the great importance of shopping activities for tourism.
