Growth of hexagonally faceted ZnO nanorods with
high density were carried out on Si (100) and sapphire
(0001) substrates by using thermal evaporation of Zn
powder in oxygen ambient. Schematic diagram of the
apparatus used for the growth of the ZnO nanorods
is shown in Fig. 1. Zn powder (4N) of about 2 g was
put in an alumina boat and the organically cleaned Si
and sapphire substrates were placed with face down
direction on the boat at ∼5 mm above the Zn powder.
