Review of SDPs
Scottish Ministers place great importance on a plan-led system, with up to date development plans guiding and managing change. The report of the Strategic Development Plan Review, prepared by Kevin Murray Associates and Glasgow University was published in April 2014. While it recognises that strategic development planning is not broken, neither is it realising its full potential.
Strategic development planning in Scotland is critical to the delivery of the housing and investment across our city regions, and provides a unique opportunity to coordinate the provision of infrastructure to support growth. Relevant partners now need to work together effectively to strengthen the system and ensure that it can continue to lead the way, and add value to the local development plans below and to the resolution of cross-boundary issues.
As part of that process, the Scottish Government’s response to the Strategic Development Plan Review is now available and we look forward to collaborating with all those relevant partners on its delivery. This is not just for the Strategic Development Planning Authorities - the success of strategic development plans, as with local development plans, will centre on the effectiveness of engagement across all relevant stakeholders.
